Are you receiving offer after offer for a college student credit card? Most senior high school students will find they will start to get these offers almost daily. One very important step when thinking about college is your finances. You need to think first of all, where you are going to go to college. Next, you are thinking, “oh my gosh, how will I pay for college.” After you figure out how you will pay for college, where are you going to live and how will you pay for that. You might find you have to get a part time job.

This is all part of the normal steps and thought processes once you hit a certain age in life. It is part of growing up. You may ask yourself, why do I need a college student credit card. There are actually many reason you would want to obtain a college student credit card. Let us just go through some of them.

One of the first benefits of obtaining a college student credit card is building your credit history. Let’s face it, at this point in your life you have very little or no credit history. Unfortunately, in today’s world you need to establish some good credit in order to buy that new car or home after you have graduated. Obtaining a college student credit card is the first step to establishing your credit.

The next benefit is being able to take care of those issues that will come up unexpectedly. Like the books you need to purchase for a class you were never told about initially. Books for college these days are not cheap and will literally take up a whole weeks worth of food if you had to choose between the two. So, having a college student credit card as a back up will certainly be a welcomed emergency reliever for you.

Another benefit of applying for a college student credit card is the ease in which you will be able to obtain it. The guidelines for a college student credit card are considerably easier then applying for a regular credit card. You will not need to qualify with a minimum monthly income and a co-signer will not be required.

The credit card companies recognize the fact that you are just starting out in life and are taking the opportunity to help you get a good start. As long as you have no credit history or very little that is not bad, the chances are you will be approved for it.

As I stated earlier you are probably just inundated with offers and also see the brochures at the college financial aid office you plan to attend. The trick is not to take the first offer. Read and research what is being offered and choose what best fits your financial needs. This is a very special time in your life, and the choices you make now will ultimately affect what you can and can not do in your future financial situations. So research what you do and make the right choices.
