Family responsibilities with student credit cards
If for whatever reason, the parents are not comfortable or do not see adequate to provide their child with an additional credit card a similar system can be installed in the family system to provide the preparation and knowledge that would acquire the student when handling the real thing.

An additional responsibility of the student that holds a student credit card is with his or her family. It is his or her responsibility to use the student credit card in a wise way; so that he or she does not overspend. The student needs to be sure before even agreeing to apply for the student credit card, who will help him or her to pay for the expenses made with the student credit card; in the case of dependant students the help most likely will come from his or her parents. So, the student needs to be aware that whatever additional expense she or she makes it will be money that he or she deprives his or her family from having. Naturally, in the case of an emergency, most families will see no problem in letting the student use the student credit card.
Which brings us to an additional family responsibility, both in the case of independent or dependant students, their family members will find themselves more at ease if they have the use of the student credit card to help them solve an unforeseen event or even buy a ticket on any means of transportation that can take them home.
But either way the student chooses to see it, any money spent with the student credit card will be money that he or she is asking his or her parents to divert form expenses that are required at home and this is only acceptable in the case of an emergency, not to buy the latest MP4 player or Birkin Bag.
Teaching such responsibility to the students is not an easy task and there is no simple way about it. Using the student credit card as a media for punishment by refusing to pay the minimal amount owed will not suffice since the logical solution in the mind of a young and inexperienced adult is to get a second credit card to pay for the first one. Eventually the student will be too submerged in debt to be able to get out on his or her own and the family will have a hard time to pay the used amount of one or two student credit cards.
