Student Credit Cards and What You Should Know

Uncategorized

When you are starting to prepare for college after you have graduated from high school, it is a very exciting time in a young persons like. You have so much to look forward to, such as a new school and maybe new housing, new friends, new town or new state. This can be all so exciting but overwhelming as well. Another new thing you must start thinking about is the financial responsibility that will go along with it all. With making sure you have your tuition and school expenses covered, you just might forget about some very important essentials. I am talking about books, housing, and food. You will need to eat.

You will find that you are going to start getting offers for student credit cards from many different lenders and financial institutions. This is good, as long as you read the fine print and understand what it is saying and do not sign up just because you want that t-shirt they are offering you right now.

Student credit card lenders have been around for a very long time and have figured out the different advertising plows that do seem to work on the normal college student. That is just fine, they are in business to do business and they do it well. When I graduated from high school many years ago (I will not say how many), if someone had offered me a “student credit card” I would have jumped at it. I do not think they were offered at that time. So, my point being, they are there to make things easier for you during your higher college educational years.

I say go for it after you have read the fine print, looked at several student credit cards being offered, and do what is right for your particular financial situation. You will get offers in the mail, you will see them set up on campus with give a ways, and you will see the application forms in the offices of the college or university you have chosen to attend. There is an abundance of them even in the economical times we are in today. Student credit card companies have found that a new college student can be a very loyal customer. After all, they gave you your first start in a credit card. If you treat your card right, make your payments on time always, and pay more than the minimum you will start to create a good credit history for yourself. And, of course, you will stay loyal to the company that gave you this great opportunity of bettering your credit. Smart people those credit card companies.

Be smart and always think about the consequences of what ever it is you do. A student credit card can be your best friend if you intend on using it correctly. You must not use it for every little thing; cause let me tell you it all adds up. My motto is “if I have cash or money in the checking account I will not use the credit card”. Your new student credit card should be used in emergency situations such as car repair, or books for school that were not originally anticipated for in the budget. What every you do, use those brains God has given you and read, think, and make the right decisions.
