The ARTICLE: The perceptions of a student that has been involved in the process
One of the most difficult things I had to decide when I went to college was whether or not would I take on a student credit card. My friends did not had a credit card other than those who their parents issued them, second credit card and in some cases, their credit cards held their mother’s or father’s name instead of their own. I always thought that that was not going to happen to me.
So, when I went to register and get my academic plan and schedule for the semester, right after I accommodated my stuff on the designated dorm; I sought to apply for a student credit card. I had talked about it with my parents and they decided that it might be a good idea, but they wanted to be a part of my choice and decision-making. Since I had always relied on the wisdom of my parents, naturally, I agreed.
In front of the administrative building, which to some is not –exactly- on campus, there were –I think- countless of tents and little desks with an undetermined number of beautiful girls with wide smiles and gorgeous guys with winks hanging over their eyes. I had to decide which student credit card application to take; I must say I was thankful –and a lot- at that particular moment that I had talked about it to my folks on advance to this moment, this way I had –at least a little one- an idea on what I should look for.
So I slowly walked to each post and started making questions, the majority of the beautiful people was unable to give me a plausible or real answer. At one point, I even decided and asked to speak with their supervisor or boss, of course that was not possible. I reviewed interest rates and all the things that the student credit cards offered and I saw that in most cases they were too expensive for any type of credit card.
The most attractive credit cards were the ones that came with the back up of a specific store, but the bad thing about them was that there is no possibility of using them in any other place than the department store that vouches for the credit card. I took the best applications I could find and told the student credit card people that I would take them, read them and then make a decision. Of course, I was prompted to sign right away and even sign a blank application! I laughed and walked back leaving them hanging.
In the end and after my parents and me went through the applications, my father decided to support me applying for a normal credit card that held better things than the student credit cards that I reviewed.
