First Time Credit Cards

If you are applying for a credit card for the first time and you do not have any credit record, it certainly is difficult. You can apply for a credit card for beginners. If you have a saving or checking account, then you can ask your bank to see if they offer credit cards for someone who has limited or no credit history. But in case your bank doesn’t offer you first time credit cards, there are more options.

You can get a departmental store credit card. These are much easier to acquire than Mastercard or Visa credit cards. Though these cards can be acquired easily, their interest rates are quite high. But on the bright side, when you get these first time credit cards and pay the bills on time, they can help you have a good credit rating so that you can apply for a major credit card later.

Apart from that, you can also submit an application for a secured credit card. In this type of card, you need to make a deposit to get a credit limit. And then there are some secured credit cards that can convert to non secure ones after some time of good credit history.

Your age
Generally, the accepted minimum age to get a credit card is 18, but if you are a teenager under 18, then you can be a joint member of a credit card with your parents. But in any case, you cannot get a Visa or a Mastercard credit card if you are underage. And a joint credit card means that your parents can monitor your spending activities.

Student Credit Cards
There are many student credit cards offered by banks. If you are a college or university student, you can get student credit cards easily. There are many companies that will offer you these cards with high interest rates, so you should be careful and apply for just one credit card.

Gas credit cards
As mentioned earlier, you can easily get first time credit cards from gas stations or departmental stores. Though they can give you a good credit record, their interest rates are high that make them difficult to use. Apart from that, there are various terms and conditions that apply on them, so you must take full care if you want to get the complete advantage of gas credit cards.

Bank account
If you have a saving account at your bank, you can apply for a credit card over there. You can ask about this from a bank representative and he or she will help you find the card that would suit your needs. Since you already have an existing relationship with the bank, it will increase your chances of getting a credit card.

Bad Credit credit cards
These cards are made especially for people who have a bad credit score. Though they do have high interest rates, they can help people with low or no credit rating. Though these are not recommended for first time credit seekers, these certainly are an option.
